Mobile Pantry

The Community Food Share (CFS) Mobile Food Pantry is a food distribution program that delivers directly to low income neighborhoods. Colorado FriendSHIP provides a trailer and most of the volunteers for this program. Colorado FriendSHIP's mission is to reduce suffering and save lives throughout Colorado by providing emergency food, shelter and clothing to those in need. Twice a month, volunteers stock a large trailer with food and drive it to the site (one in Boulder and one in Lafayette). Bags of groceries are given away to anyone in need. A typical distribution day sees 100 people.

In 2010 Community Food Share will be operating Mobile Pantry in January, February, March, and April. In these first 4 months of the year Mobile Pantry will operate exactly the way it did in 2009, at the same locations and weeks in the month. At the March and April distributions Community Food Share will provide  updated program information for the remainder of the year. Below are the dates and locations for the Jan, Feb, Mar & April 2010 distributions.

Note to clients: If you need food, please see the schedule below. You do not need to bring or show anything, but please expect to verbally inform a Community Food Share staff member of your name, address, birthday, and number of people in your household. For questions please call Michele Harvey, Agency and Programs Managers at 303-652-3663 x 218

Following are a few of the people who have been helped by the Mobile Food Pantry;

Angela is a 33-year-old single mother living in Boulder with her two children. Currently she receives Food Stamps and approximately $280 per month from SSI. Angela is not able to work because she suffers from a debilitating illness. She depends on SSI and help from family and friends who look out for her. A regular at the Mobile Food Pantry since its inception, Angela tells us that it has been a great help in providing food at the end of the month when her money usually runs out.

Edgar is a hard working family man. He works for the University and makes about $1,600 per month. His income only goes so far supporting his wife, their four children and their two in-laws. With the help of Habitat for Humanity, Edgar and his family were able to move into their own home a few years ago. His wife supplements the family's income by babysitting in addition to taking care of their own children. The family is usually able to get by, but there are occasions when unexpected events arise. Being able to rely on the Mobile Pantry makes a huge difference for them.
